The materials are especially relevant to the history of the Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary and the Pools’ work with the Baptist community in Nigeria. Correspondence, writings, and printed materials relating to Smith’s advocacy for the abolition of slavery in Great Britain and in Britain’s colonies in the West Indies. The bulk of the collection’s correspondence is addressed to Smith. Letters of William Wilberforce and the Wilberforce family discuss personal affairs, politics, abolition, and other matters.

Articles appeared in The Edinburgh Review during 1814 which questioned William Pitt’s motives in supporting the abolitionists. Wilberforce (Oct. 22, 1814) wrote Harrison concerning his relations with the younger Pitt (d. 1806), and stated that his belief was that www.loveconnectionreviews.com/snapcougars-review Pitt had been a “sincere friend” of the abolition movement. The letter of Apr. 26 suggests the establishment of a special board, sanctioned by the King, to see to the composition of such works. Other letters from this period are between Wilberforce and Harford.

On November 8, 1861, Charles Wilkes commanded that the British mail steamer Trent halt and be boarded. He then searched the vessel, arrested the Confederate commissioners James Mason and John Slidell, and removed them to the U.S. Wilkes’s primary error was in searching a neutral vessel and seizing the agents on board, rather than bringing the ship into port. His actions became quite controversial both in the United States and in Europe.

Other topics represented in the collection include the Boxing Bill; the Communications Group; the Inter-departmental Communications Committee , probably a precursor of the Federal Communications Commission; and a proposed National Advisory Council. Roper’s tenure as Secretary of Commerce is primarily documented in the Alphabetical Series, which not only is the largest series but also forms the heart of the collection. His support of Franklin D. Roosevelt in the 1932 presidential campaign probably helped him earn this cabinet appointment along with Roper’s representation of the old Woodrow Wilson element in the Democratic Party. Roper set as a major task the development of mutual confidence, cooperation, and a closer relationship between business and government in order to bring about a recovery from the depression.

The Finance Series documents company billings worldwide, internal financial reorganizing, and operating expenses. Specifically documented is the 1983 financial reorganization of the J. The Acquisitions Series, Restricted, documents acquisitions and prospects for acquisition in Germany, Britain, Austria, France, Holland, Sweden, and the U.S. It includes a 1980 report on the acquisition of Die Werbe Wien GmbH, and information on the acquisitions of the Stein Schjaerven AB agency in Stockholm in 1980, and the Getas research firm in 1981. The Organizations Series, Restricted, contains materials pertaining to advertising aimed at and employing children which was strictly regulated under German law. The Meetings Series documents the meetings of various JWT executive committees.

There is scant evidence in these papers relating to Roper’s career other than that as Secretary of Commerce and his speeches as Commissioner of Internal Revenue. His autobiography, Fifty Years of Public Life in the Writings and Speeches Series, gives an overview of his career. There is some information on his career as the First Assistant Postmaster General in the Alphabetical Series in the Postmaster General file. In that series there is a little information in Internal Revenue Service folders about his resignation as Commissioner. In the Clippings Series there is documentation of his brief service as U.S.

The tape contains an interview with Bizimana Augustin ex-minister of defense. The interview focuses on the part the army played in massacre, Bizimana acknowledge the killing in Rwanda but argues for the use of the term genocide for both side of the conflict. When asked to explain the reason these killing took place, Col. Bizimana claims the massacre to be the result of an explosion after Habyarimna was killed. Bizimana argues that a return by force will be necessary if RPF refused the negotiation. Col. Bizimana thanks the French government for assisting Rwanda but regret that France military involvement couldn’t be possible. When asked how he will evaluate the United Nations’ role in the conflict, Bizimana replied by stating that United Nations was failing in Rwanda like it failed in Somali.

A July 9, 1816, letter speaks of Zachary Macaulay; and a May 7, 1817, letter tells of a Macaulay letter falling into the hands of Joseph Marryat. Wilberforce also speaks bitterly of Marryat’s attack on himself. The collection includes pro-Allied, pro-Axis, and anti-Allie and anti-Axis propaganda in the form of flyers, broadsides, and leaflets that were distributed or dropped in the United States, England, Germany, occupied France, and the Pacific arena from 1939 and 1945.

I have been out of the closet for more than 30 years, and like most of the lesbian community we don’t have a lot of healthy role models for forming lasting relationships. There are also letters referring to life at Yale University in the 18th century; a yellow fever epidemic in New Orleans, 1804; and the settlement of Ephraim Kirby’s complicated estate. The papers of Ephraim Kirby date from 1763 to 1878, and consist of correspondence, broadsides, legal papers, bills and receipts pertaining to the Revolutionary War, early settlements west of the Alleghenies and Alabama, land speculation, internal improvements, and politics. Revolutionary War letters describe life in the Continental Army; military engagements, including the battle of Germantown and the surrender of Cornwallis; the conduct of General Oliver Wolcott; the beginnings of Ephraim Kirby’s legal practice, and the purchase of law books.
